Traffic Reminder

Posted Date: 8/12/25 (3:02 PM)

Dear Parents and Guardians, The City of Arroyo Grande has provided important information about ongoing construction on the Traffic Way Bridge and the temporary traffic changes that will be in place during the first several months of the upcoming school year.

The Traffic Way Bridge is fully closed to all traffic and the following traffic measures are in place:

  • Southbound drivers will need to use the Fair Oaks freeway exit or detour through the Village and via Mason Street.
  • Bridge Street will operate as northbound only.
  • A traffic circle has been installed at the Arroyo Grande High School on Fair Oaks to help ease congestion. This feature is designed to allow westbound drivers leaving campus to avoid the Traffic Way Bridge detours through the Village. Please pay close attention to posted signs, slow your speed, and always yield to vehicles already in the circle.
  • A temporary traffic signal has been placed at the Fair Oaks Avenue freeway off-ramp to improve traffic flow into the Village and to help vehicles exit the freeway more efficiently.
  • The Arroyo Grande Police Department will be monitoring congestion on Fair Oaks and throughout the Village during peak times. Drivers should be aware of increased pedestrian and bicycle activity on local streets and are reminded that the speed limit in school zones is 25 miles per hour.

We strongly encourage families to plan their routes in advance and allow extra time when traveling to and from school. Project updates, detour maps and recommended routes are available on the City of Arroyo Grande’s website at www.arroyogrande.org/twb.

The City reported that construction on the Traffic Way Bridge is on schedule for completion by the end of December. Your patience and cooperation are appreciated as these important improvements are completed and ensure a safe start to the school year for our students and families.

Thank you!
